Dr. Hunter Woodall

Hospice of the Upstate
Medical Director

Hunter E. “Woody” Woodall, MD is board certified in Hospice and Palliative Care, and has served as Medical Director for Hospice of the Upstate since 1998.  He teaches at AnMed Health Family Medicine Residency here in Anderson and practices the full range of Family Medicine including obstetrics.  His experience is shared with state and national audiences in publications and conference presentations.  He believes in an interdisciplinary approach to caring for the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—and believes that even when cure is no longer possible, excellent comfort care should always be provided.  As part of his hospice duties he sings to his patients and writes about many of them.  Dr. Woodall is a Presbyterian elder and enjoys motorcycling, chess, refereeing soccer, and choral singing.

Dr. Woodall says:
“Hospice of the Upstate is not about dying.  It’s about living well.  We are here to help folks with terminal illness when cure is no longer possible.  We provide these patients and their families hope for a dignified, peaceful death without pain, guilt, or remorse.  Each day, we delight in improving each patient’s remaining time by treating symptoms and providing excellent care.”

Dr. Katie Hanna

Home Care
Medical Director

Dr. Katie Hanna has worked with the entire life spectrum including Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, taught Family Medicine to residents and Nursing Home Medical Director.  She is board certified in Family Medicine and board eligible in Hospice & Palliative Medicine.    Dr. Hanna began volunteering with Hospice of the Upstate in April 2005 then became Home Care Medical Director, with an entirely home based practice, in November 2005.  Her main interests, outside of her hospice work, include growing in faith, reading, taking long walks, riding her motorcycle and caring for her three dogs and two cats.

Dr. Hanna says:
"Our main purpose is to come along side our patients and families during this stressful time, with our focus on relief of suffering in whatever form that might take, maintaining quality of life and helping patients reach their individual goals.  We meet them where they are and walk this journey with them."
